Agnes Thompson

Agnes Thompson, 98, formerly of 1202 – 8th Street, Boone, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Monday evening, December 18, 2006. She had been a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone since November of 2006. She was born on March 7, 1908 in Wallace Stone, Scotland, the daughter of George and Jeanie (McLuckie) Menzies. On April 27, 1931 she married Gilbert Thompson at Bethany, Missouri. Agnes’s family moved to Iowa from Scotland when she was 11 months hold. She was a 1926 graduate of Boone High School. Agnes worked for 46 years as a secretary for Boone County Abstract and Loan, retiring in 1972. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, word search puzzles, and was an avid Cubs fan. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. Her parents, husband, Gilbert “Gib”, in January of 1984, 1 brother, and 4 sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include 1 sister, Helen Scott of Lakeland, Florida, nieces, and nephews. Services will be held Thursday morning, December 21st at 10:00 A.M. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Thursday morning from 8:00 A.M. until the time of service. The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Association.
