Arlene Ulrick, 89, of the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Care Center on Friday morning, March 7, 2008. She had been a resident at the Care Center since February of 2002. She was born on May 15, 1918 in Stratford, Iowa the daughter of Wallie and Anna (Adamson) Ulrick. Arlene attended school in Stratford. Later in life, for many years, Arlene was housekeeper for her brother, Glenn. While housekeeping for Glenn, Arlene was a neighbor to Catherine Angstrom and they became close friends. After Glenn passed away, Arlene moved to the Stratford Apartments and lived there until moving to the Care Center. Arlene was always ready for company! She enjoyed it when the ladies from the church came to visit and always talked about the surprise birthday party they had for her. Alene enjoyed visiting with her friends, especially over a cup of coffee. She was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church and attended Church until her health made it hard for her to continue. Her parents Wallie and Anna, 5 brothers Julius, Lloyd, Glenn, Willard, and Robert; and 1 sister Pearl preceded her in death. Survivors include one sister Doris Dodge and her husband Everett of South Pasadena, California; one sister-in-law Jeanie Ulrick of Waterloo, Iowa; one brother-in-law John Starr of Nashua, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Catherine Angstrom and daughter Margo Haman for all the time and love they gave to Arlene. It is all greatly appreciated. Services will be held on Tuesday afternoon, March 11th at 1:30 p.m. at the Athens Woods Estates’ Chapel in Stratford with Pastor Drew Zahn officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford.
