Beth Schwartz Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margaret Elizabeth “Beth” Schwartz, 92, a resident of Westhaven Community in Boone since July of 1995, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Thursday afternoon, August 2, 2012. Beth was born on February 29, 1920 in rural Woodward, Iowa the daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Blaine) Phipps. She was married to John Lindahl and later to William Schwartz. Beth graduated from Woodward High School in 1937 and received her Bachelor Degree in Education from Drake University. She taught in the elementary schools in Beaver, Ridgeport, Grand Community in Boxholm, and Ft. Dodge for several years. Beth had a passion for music and taught herself the piano which she enjoyed playing and singing with the Sweet Adeline’s. She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her parents; husband William Schwartz; and 3 brothers Jim, Jack and Bill Phipps preceded her in death. Survivors include 2 sons Gary Lindahl of Platte City, Missouri and John “Doug” Lindahl and wife Marsha of Polk City, Iowa; 4 grandchildren Sarah Celski and husband Matt of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ann Marie Mohns and husband Brad of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jeremy Lindahl of Granada Hills, California and Jason Lindahl and wife Rachel of Orange County, California; 6 great-grandchildren Preston and Stella Lindahl, Ava and Brady Mohns, and Izzy and Nate Celski; 1 sister Katherine Naeve of Des Moines, Iowa; and 1 brother Harris Phipps of Manhattan, Kansas. Following her wishes, the body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday morning, August 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating. Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
