Clarence Ball

Clarence Ewald Ball, (94) of the Suites of Ankeny passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday, June 1, 2022. He was born on March 27, 1928 in Logan Township (Sioux City, Iowa) the son of Ewald E. Ball and Florence (Yates) Ball. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1947. While in high school he was able to receive his pilot’s license at Western Union College pilot ground school. He loved flying and purchased his first plane while in High School. Clarence was always eager to talk about flying and airplanes. Clarence married Johnnie Lee (Klohs) on June 1, 1946 in Denver, CO while serving in the Army Air Corps at Lowry Field. The couple moved to Arizona and lived there from 1952 to 1966. After leaving Arizona he lived in Minnesota and then moved back to Iowa and settled in the Boone area. Boone is where Clarence developed Specification Chemicals, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Lee (Klohs) Ball, a son John Robert Ball, and daughter Jill Mary Davis. Survivors include his daughter, Suzanne Salter and her husband Wayne of Ankeny, grandchildren; Jenifer Maki and husband Erik of Johnston, Mathew Henderson and wife Nicole of Runnels, Lindsey (Davis) Triplett and husband Matthew of Littleton, CO, Rachel (Davis) Ellefson and husband Justin of Des Moines, Jason Davis and wife Michelle of Colorado, Rita (Ball) Morrell and husband Rivers of Knoxville, TN, and Chris Ball and wife Kirstie of Little Elm, Texas and fifteen great-grandchildren. Clarence loved his family and was a hard worker. He always felt like he needed to accomplish something each day. There will be a graveside service at 2:00pm, Friday June 10, 2022 with Pastor Randy Abell officiating. Family and friends are welcome to meet after the service at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, Iowa.
