Donald Hardman

March 20, 1928 - March 7, 2008

Donald D. Hardman, 79, of 1321 S.E. Linn Street in Boone, Iowa passed away at his home on Monday evening, March 3, 2008 with his loving family at his bedside. He was born on March 20, 1928 in Boone, Iowa the son of Frank and Barbara (Thompson) Hardman. On December 26, 1958, he married Betty Knight at Boone, Iowa. The couple later divorced. On December 8, 1982, he married Emma Belle Douglass-Clark at her home, the Douglass Home, in Boone. Don was a veteran of the Korean War receiving a Bronze Star while serving in the Army. He was a foreman and safety inspector for Weitz Construction in Des Moines for 45 years, before retiring. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, tending to his tulips, playing bingo, watching NASCAR races and going to the races every Saturday night. He was a member of the Marion Street United Methodist Church, Local Union #177, American Legion, High Twelve; the Masons, Mt. Olive Lodge #79 AF&AM; and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Emma Belle in June of 1999; 2 brothers Frank and Thomas Hardman; and 1 sister Janet Potter. Survivors include his daughter Barb Pepples of Boone; 3 sons David Clark and his wife Debi of Frazier; Doug Clark and his wife Gail of Dallas City, Illinois; Leand Clark and his wife Christi of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Gilbert Hardman and his wife May of Hamilton, Scotland; 1 sister Betty Mayes of Hamilton, Scotland; and his companion Carol Majors. Services will be held on Friday afternoon, March 7th at 1:30 p.m. at the Marion Street United Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Philip Webb officiating. Following the funeral service, the body will be cremated. Interment will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery north of Des Moines, Iowa at a later date. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. when the casket will be taken to the Church where visitations will continue from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends. Masonic services, conducted by Mt. Olive Lodge #79 AF&AM of Boone, will be held on Thursday evening, March 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, Iowa. Presentation of the flag will be conducted by the Veterans Council of Boone.
