Florence Baker Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Florence E. Baker, 97, formerly of Fairfield, Iowa passed away at the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Friday afternoon, November 8, 2013 where she had been a resident since August of 2005. She was born on June 13, 1916 in Birmingham, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Wilda May (Oosthoek) Moore. Florence graduated from Birmingham High School in 1933. On October 1, 1938, she married Eugene “Gene” Baker at Birmingham, Iowa. She was a homemaker on their farm near Libertyville, clerked in stores and was a secretary for the Jefferson County ASCS office for a number of years. Her parents; husband Gene in 1986; 2 sisters Aileen Matheson and Jeanette Samuelson; and 1 brother, Fred Moore preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Allan Baker and wife Mary Jean of Ames, Iowa; a grandson Richard Baker and wife Aimee of New Bern, North Carolina; a granddaughter Christine Engelbrecht and husband Josh and 2 great-granddaughters all presently of the Netherlands. Florence’s wishes were to be cremated. A private family graveside service and interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Iowa. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville or the Libertyville Community Center.
