J.B. “Bernie” Reid, 78, of 409 West 4th Street in Boone passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on Thursday evening, December 22, 2011. He was born on March 3, 1933, in Boone County, Iowa the son of James Blaine and Bernadine (Muldoon) Reid. Bernie graduated from Boone High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bernie was an active member of Duck’s Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and the National Turkey Federation in Columbus, Ohio for many years and continued to support DU when he returned to Iowa in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Ohio State University football Buckeye fan. His father James Reid, mother Bernadine Pim and a son David Reid preceded him in death. He is survived by a son Drew Reid and wife Sherry of Newark, Ohio; a sister Paula Johnson and husband Jim of Florida; 2 brothers John Reid and wife Gail of Rome, New York and Todd Reid and wife Nancy of Aurora, Colorado; a granddaughter Heather Reid of Columbus, Ohio and 2 great-granddaughters, Robin and Ann; and his special friend of sixteen years, Karen L. Walters. Bernie’s wishes were to be cremated. There are no services planned at this time. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family.
