He was born on October 22, 1936, in the family farm home near Unionville, Missouri, the youngest of seven children of Benjamin Franklin and Fannie Marie (Mahoney) Galloway. On June 15, 1958, he married Janet Ann Holbert at the First Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa, and they began their married life in Loves Park, Illinois. Jerry graduated from Unionville High School in 1955. That summer, he worked the wheat harvest from Texas to Canada. He worked and attended trade school in Rockford, Illinois, and became a journeyman carpenter. In 1962, the family moved to Stratford to begin farming, and for 40 years Jerry was primarily a livestock producer. In 2002, he and Janet moved into Stratford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford and over the years honored his Lord and Savior as Church Chairman, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and AWANA listener. Jerry served on the Webster County Cattlemen’s Board, the Stratford Community School Board, and the Stratford Grain and Supply Co-op Board. He also greatly enjoyed the various coffee groups in the area. His parents; 5 sisters, Auldean, Mildred, Maudie, Olive, and Marjorie; and 1 brother Perry preceded him in death. Survivors include Janet, his wife of 55 years; a son Stewart Galloway and wife Darlene of Walford, Iowa; 3 daughters Paula Galloway of Des Moines, Iowa, Lexie French and husband David of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Stella Schoenberger and husband Eric of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-granddaughters. Services will be held on Thursday morning, May 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Stratford with Pastors Jim Mead, Joe Lambert and Mike Fendley officiating. Interment will be in the McGuire Bend Cemetery northwest of Stratford, Iowa. Friends may call at the First Baptist Church in Stratford on Wednesday evening, April 30th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue on Thursday morning at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial gifts may be directed to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
