Lois "Johnnie" Holbert

October 9, 1914 - July 25, 2006

Lois P. “Johnnie” Holbert, 91, of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa on Monday morning, July 24, 2006. She had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center since April of 1999. She was born on October 9, 1914 in Humphreys, Missouri the daughter of Arthur Orland and Floy Louella (Buckner) Grim. On December 24, 1939, she married Lawrence “Larry” Holbert at Mt. Olivette Baptist Church in Steffenville, Missouri. Johnnie was a homemaker and worked as a clerk for Doerr Drug and Family Pharmacy in Stratford for over 20 years. She enjoyed baking cookies and giving them away to her friend and family; sewing, crocheting, and being involved in family oriented activities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford. Her parents, husband, Lawrence “Larry” Holbert in May of 1980, and 1 brother, Leo Grim of Lewistown, Missouri preceded her in death. Survivors include 2 daughters, Susan (Ronnie) Bergman of Stratford, IA, Carolyn (Douglas) Miller of Danville, AR, 6 grandchildren, Matthew Bergman of Lake City, IA, Benjy Bergman (Therese) of Stratford, Iowa, Amanda (Chris) Paulson of Ottawa, KS, J.D. Bergman of Dallas Center, IA, Nathan Miller and Katie Miller both of Danville, AR, 2 step-great-grandchildren, Taylor Clark and Gabby Clark of Stratford, IA, and 1 great-granddaughter, Morgan Paulson of Ottawa, KS. Services will be held Wednesday morning, July 26th at 10:00 A.M. at the Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Jim Mead officiating. Interment will be in McGuire Bend Cemetery northwest of Stratford, Iowa. Friends may call at the Baptist Church in Stratford on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday morning from 8:30 A.M. until the time of service. The family will be present at the Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to Opportunity Living, 1890 East Main Street, Lake City, Iowa, 51449. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
