Marilyn Nash

February 12, 1931 - May 2, 2022

On May 2, 2022, Marilyn J. Nash, 91, of 222 Boone St in Boone, Iowa took her final bow. Born on February 12, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Martin and S. Margaret O’Connell Spykerman, Marilyn was destined to be a woman of fortitude, kindness, and compassion. She was a woman of many talents and titles. She was the original Country Peddler and shared her love of decorating and shopping with the town of Boone. She loved collecting antiques, gardening, traveling, and decorating for the holidays. She could cook, she could craft, she could plan. But most importantly, she could love. And that’s what she brought with her when she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, James G. Nash on June 14th, 1951. She also carried that love and appreciation for all things to the children she and Jim brought into the world - James (Jim), Jr., Julie, Timothy, and Amy. Together, they settled in Boone, Iowa in 1970 and forged a lifetime of memories that would fill libraries. One of the things that Marilyn cherished most was being a grandmother. If there was one accomplishment in her life that was above anything, it was being Nana. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Questers, PEO Chapter NP, Lowell Club, Church Circles, bridge clubs, and 30-plus year member of various PTA organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jim Nash, son Jim Nash, Jr., parents, siblings, and an infant son at birth. She is survived by her son, Tim (Jenifer Davis) of Des Moines, Iowa, daughter-in-law Jean Nash of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters Julie Nash (Van Harris) of Boone, Iowa, and Amy Walter (Shawn) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Amber, Jonathan (Brianna), Katherine (Linsey Hammett), Carey, Tyler (Laura), Kyle and Ryan; and great-grandsons Declan, Patrick and Wyatt. It was Marilyn’s wish to be cremated and she and Jim will share their final resting place together at Lake Michigan, where their love story began. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Iowa Arboretum, Madrid, Iowa where a tree will be planted in her memory. In memory of Marilyn, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research or to the Iowa Arboretum where a redbud tree, one of her favorite trees, will be planted in her memory. A bench will also be dedicated to both Jim and Marilyn Nash so family and friends can sit and enjoy the trees and birds at the Arboretum. Blue skies and sunshine always make for a good day!
