Mary Wittmer

August 4, 1925 - September 9, 2015

Mary L. Wittmer, 90, formerly of 422 South Greene Street passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Thursday morning, September 3, 2015 where she had resided since 2011. She was born on August 4, 1925 in Boone, the daughter and only child of Carl and Lillian (Erickson) Bjorkman. On September 6, 1946, she married E.T. "Mick" Wittmer at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Mary graduated from Boone High School in 1943. She was a homemaker, worked as a telephone operator and for many years was a proof reader for the Boone News Republican newspaper. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, but her greatest joy was being a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifetime member of the Augustana Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Mick, who died in October of 2001. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Mike Wittmer and wife Nikki of Ames, Iowa and Mark Wittmer and wife Cathy of The Villages, Florida; grandchildren Mari Johnson and husband Jeff of Ames, Matt Wittmer and wife Becca of St. Paul, Minnesota, Angie Petersen and husband Troy of Dysart, Iowa, Chad Wittmer and wife Jamie of Watertown, Minnesota, Nathan Wittmer and wife Crystal of Shenandoah, Iowa and Wendy Wittmer of Montevideo, Uruguay; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mary's family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Eastern Star Masonic Home for the loving care Mary was given over the last four years. Visitations will be held prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Both funeral services and visitation will be at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. In memory of Mary, memorials may be directed to the Augustana Lutheran Church.
