Robert Harris Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert "Bob" Lafe Harris, 86, of Boone, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, at Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. to service time. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, at Central Christian Church, 803 Greene Street in Boone, with Rev. Gary Sneller officiating. Interment will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Bob was born on June 19, 1927 to Lafayette and Elizabeth (Coleman) Harris in Boone, Iowa. He attended Boone schools. Bob served in the Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1946. Bob married Dorothy Ann Ross on January 7, 1950. Bob was a painter of agriculture machinery at John Deere in Ankeny. He retired from John Deere in 1985. Bob was an active member of Moose International 104, V.F.W. Francis Steele Post No. 817, and the Mirza Masonic Lodge 609 of Pilot Mound. He loved fishing, dancing and socializing with friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his 12 brothers and sisters. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy Harris of Boone; his son Kim Harris and wife Michele of Boone; his daughter Laurie Platter and husband Steve of Boone; his daughter Julie Harris of Boone; his five grandchildren, Robert Platter, Stephanie Platter, Jeremy Harris (Shelby), Donavan Harris (Sarah), Tyson Harris (Danyel), his seven great grandchildren; his brother, Donald Harris of California; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family, in memory of Bob.
