Robert D. Wallace

December 3, 1930 - July 29, 2011

Robert D. Wallace, 80, of 1901 – 1st Street in Boone, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011. He was born on December 3, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Ralph and Ellen (Richardson) Wallace. On June 6, 1952, he married Shirley Mae Brown in Des Moines, Iowa. Robert served in the U.S. Navy. For a number of years, he worked at H&W Motor Express, retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Texas until 2003, when they moved to Boone. Robert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boone and Teamster #142 of Des Moines. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and was an avid reader. His parents; one daughter Sandra Wallace Kramme; two brothers Ralph, Jr. and Eldon; and 1 sister Nona preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Shirley of Boone; a son Steve Wallace and wife Alyce of Des Moines; 4 grandchildren Scott Wallace and wife Bridget, and Andy Wallace and wife Rochelle all of Des Moines; Melissa Franks and husband John of Boone, and Heather Patterson and husband Brian of Moingona; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters Patty Range and husband Bob of Rose Hill, Kansas, Betty Sinn and husband Gene of Stuart, Iowa, and Penny and husband John of Des Moines; nieces and nephews. Robert’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday morning, July 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone with Rev. Kristin Pike officiating. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to Homeward Hospice of Ames.
