Russell Oval Simmons Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Russell Oval Simmons, 85, of Boone, Iowa passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa. Russell was born on September 17, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Dale and Margaret Simmons, after High School Russell joined the United States Air Force. Russell was a truck driver for over 30 years at Fareway Grocery Stores. He enjoyed going to get coffee at McDonalds and Hyvee. He also liked to go to auctions and garage sales whenever he would hear about one. Russell was an avid collector of hot wheels cars, cookie jars and all different kinds of antiques. He was ornery and liked to joke around; he enjoyed making people laugh and could always be heard laughing himself. Russell is survived by his children: Sandy Smith; Sonia (Dale) Perkins; Julie (Arlin) Giesler; Michelle (Bill) Santoyo; Jeanette (Melvin) Wells, 10 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; Dale and Margret Simmons. Visitation will be held Monday, April 22, 2019, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street in Boone. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Cue officiating. Interment will be at Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone. Memorials are suggested to the Boone Humane Society in Russell’s honor.
