Thelma Donaldson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Thelma Mae Donaldson, age 90, died at the Boone County Hospital in Boone on Friday afternoon, July 12, 2013. She was a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone for the past several years. She was born on May 17, 1923 in Boone, Iowa the daughter of C. Victor and Edith M. (Johnson) Donaldson. A 1941 graduate of Boone High School, Ms. Donaldson was a career musician whose college education took her to John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Wheaton College of Wheaton Illinois and the University of Minnesota. More recently, she retired after serving over fifty years as organist and pianist at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone. Earlier she served as staff pianist and editor at “Back To The Bible” broadcast ministries in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was an administrator and editor for the Pathology Department at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Ms. Donaldson traveled widely in this country and abroad. Her fluency in Swedish kept her in contact with many of her family’s Swedish relatives. An avocational interest in Swedish literature and history, communication and genealogy, made her the center of contact among widespread family members. Her major life interests were her faith, Church, family, friends and sacred music. She was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother Robert V. and wife Shirley (Strandberg) Donaldson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and brother-in-law George H. Landis of Omaha, Nebraska. Thelma is survived by her sister Lois I. Landis of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Wilbur D. “Chris“ and wife Jean A. (Erickson) Donaldson of St. Paul, Minnesota; nieces and nephews include Judy (Landis) Forsman and husband Richard of Omaha, Nebraska, Richard Landis and wife Kathleen of Ashland, Nebraska, Ann K. (Donaldson) Hazen of New York City, New York, Eric J. and wife Susan (Birkebak) Donaldson of St Paul, Minnesota, William Donaldson and wife Margaret of Phoenix, Arizona and Kara Donaldson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; many grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Graveside services with interment to follow will be held on Friday afternoon, July 19th at 1:00 p.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa with Pastor Lee Hotchkiss officiating. Memorials may be given to the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone.
