Walter Hollingsworth

July 4, 1921 - April 9, 2008

Walter "Walt" Hollingsworth, 86, of 111 West 4th Street in Boone, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, April 6, 2008. Walter was born July 4, 1921 in Dallas Center, Iowa the son of Walter and Anna (Grief) Hollingsworth. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. Walter was a farmer by trade until retiring, when the couple moved to The West Haven Apartments where they currently resided. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Lions Club, Gideon’s Society and served many years on the Board of the Evangelical Free Church Home. In his free time, he enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with family and friends. His parents, sister, and brother preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Gwen of Boone; his children Dewell Hollingsworth and his wife Maureen of Boone, Devon Hollingsworth and his wife Carol of Dekalb, Illinois, and Cheryl Devoto and her husband Elias of Clive, Iowa; 9 grandchildren Liesl (Brian) Roorda, Britta (Kirk) Dimler, Kirk (Teresa) Hollingsworth, Jennifer Hollingsworth, Mark Hollingsworth, Roxanne (BJ) Lodge, Karl (Melissa) Devoto, Maritza Devoto, and Nicolle Devoto; 19 great-grandchildren, Spencer, Sidney, Waverly, and Isabella Roorda; Konnor, Kadyn and Kelby Dimler; Zachary, Tyler, Brock, Wyatt, Isaac, and Taya Hollingsworth; Korbin and Alissia Lodge; and Chase, Mackenzie, Lukas, and Soleil Devoto. Walter will be dearly missed. Services will be held on Wednesday morning, April 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone with Pastor Luis Martinez officiating. Interment with full military honors conducted by the Veterans Council of Boone will be in the Fairview Cemetery north of Madrid, Iowa. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning at the Evangelical Free Church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. The family will be at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone.
